The summer before your first year of college is packed with nervous jitters and what if’s. You may be excited or nervous…or even both! There are many ways to make this life-changing transition into the smoothest adjustment you possibly can!
- Make plans to hang out with your roommate beforehand
Having a good friend before the welcome week hustle and bustle will leave you feeling relieved! Hit up your roommate to grab a bite or just get coffee and bond before you move in. I hung out with my roommate during the summer before freshman year and we ended up making plans for stuff to do during the school year, helping me form an automatic friend to do things with during the first week of school!
2. Research different places on campus
A new place to live is always a scary thing. Luckily, with the power of Google and the many resources on the UW-Madison website, you can educate yourself about restaurants, libraries, and just fun things to do on the campus so you aren’t completely lost once you arrive. Once I got there, my roommate and I just took the day to walk around and explore the campus. Being familiar with everything before hand made things easier for navigating events and classed.
3. Spend quality time with your family
This is the last time you will actually be living at home! As bittersweet as it may be, spending your last weeks in your childhood hometown before the next chapter of your life will form a support system with your family which you will be thankful for once you have moved away.
