Madison is known for its abrupt changes in weather. During the in-between seasons (i.e. spring and fall) it can be difficult to plan out an outfit when it’s 60 degrees in the morning and then 80 degrees by the time you’re out of class. There’s only one way to prevent overheating—layering.
There are many different ways to layer, and I’ll tell you about a few of the best layering pieces to throw on over a t-shirt or tank top.
1. Zip-up sweatshirts. This is easily the most popular choice, as it is both stylish and functional. No more messing up your hair as you pull your sweatshirt off. Also, if you like the shirt you’re wearing underneath, keep the sweatshirt unzipped to show it off!
2. Cardigans. Although less popular than the sweatshirt, a cardigan is my go-to for layering. A light cardigan is the perfect layering piece for a day where you’d like to dress up a bit. There are also thin and thick cardigans, so there’s an option for any kind of weather.
3. Raincoats. While this feels obvious, you’d be surprised by how many people bring a winter coat as their only form of jacket and forget to bring a raincoat. In the Spring, you never know when it will rain in Madison, so it’s good to always be prepared. I recommend getting a thinner black jacket, so that you can wear it with any color and won’t get too hot wearing it.
Now you know the best ways to stay comfortable in the erratic weather of Madison. I hope you take my advice and find the perfect layering pieces for you!
