Better than Beaches and Bikinis

Spring/winter break in college is usually not a break (for your liver at least). While most 18-22 year-olds spend their week-long vacay in a tropical paradise with their besties, sipping a fruity cocktail (or 12) this break alternative will stimulate a different organ- the brain.

Now I know it doesn’t seem like the most exciting spring break activity, but taking an online class over your winter or spring break has many benefits.

  1. Shorter Class Length

This can be a pro or con depending on your learning style, but I found that with smaller class sizes and more personalized communication, you can actually learn more in depth about the topic, even in a shorter time period.

 2. Complete More Credits and Graduate Early

Taking online classes over your breaks can accelerate your graduation timeline and save you housing and food expenses. You’re also able to complete more GenEds and take more major-focused classes.

 3. Unique Class Choices

Although most students complain that course selection is limited, I found that there are some cool classes that aren’t typically offered during actual school terms that are very beneficial.

4. Pass/Fail Option

This is great if you’re thinking about applying to any other school other than L&S. A Pass is like earning full credit (4.0) and you don’t have to worry about Bs and Cs bringing down you GPA.

After reading this, I’m sure you can agree that taking an online course is WAYYY better than beachin’ it with your besties, right?? Well, if not, I can tell you that missing out on one trip won’t be the end of the world, and that taking a few classes outside of each semester will benefit you in the long-run.
