I’d be lying if I told you that I knew exactly what I wanted to major in when I first got to college. The only thing I did know was that I liked to write. So, I started out as a communications major before discovering my passion for journalism and publications. I didn’t come to this without help though, it was because of the on-campus publications and newspapers that I was able to find my path.
In the fall of my sophomore year I started writing for The Daily Cardinal. At this point in my college career I thought I wanted to major in political science as well, so I began writing for the news desk. This helped me learn how to write an effective news story, and it also helped me realize politics wasn’t my passion.
After a semester writing for news, I made the switch to writing for the life and style section. I loved the topics I wrote about here, and was inspired to begin writing my own fashion blog.
Once I knew the fashion industry was where I wanted to take my writing talents, I showed up to Moda Magazine’s spring kickoff meeting! Here’s our May issue if you too are interested in fashion: http://modamadison.com/2017/05/22/mayissue/
It’s amazing looking back at how these publications on campus have shaped me into the writer I am today. If it wasn’t for them, I would still be a lost puppy trying to figure out what I wanted to major in.
Freshman year is the BEST time to start getting involved and I promise you won’t regret it!
