On a campus as large as UW-Madison, it can be hard to know where you belong. There are thousands of people to meet and it can feel impossible to know where to start. In this post I will go over a few of my personal tips to start finding your place on campus and some resources to help you along.
1. First Impressions
The semester moves startlingly fast and it is important to get to know the people around you in the first week of living on campus, before classes start. When you first move in, go find someone to introduce yourself to. Meet your neighbors on either side and across the hall. Remember that they want to get to know their peers just as much as you do.
2. Student Organization Fair
One of the best ways to enhance your experience at UW is to join a student organization. The student org fair is the best way to learn about organizations. At the event, you can talk to representatives from student organizations to lean how to get involved. There is also a web page.

3. Meet Through the Internet
Instagram and Facebook are great places to find groups that fit your interests. I attended live concerts I learned about through Instagram. It has never been easier to find people with common interests through social media.
UW-Madison is a big place for some people. Don’t be afraid to get out there and find your place, make friends, join groups, and enjoy your experience.
