For many incoming freshman, making new friends and getting involved on campus can seem like a daunting task. Luckily, there are so many clubs and student organizations here at UW-Madison that make it easy to find your niche. If you played sports in high school, the club sports teams on campus are a great place to start looking!
Being a part of a club sports team is an easy way to make new friends who share something in common with you. Personally, I know that many of my best college friendships were made with people I met before school even started at club lacrosse practices. Any club sport that starts in the fall has the added perk of practices starting at the beginning, or even before the school year–which is a big time to get out there and make new friends.
Additionally, while club sports are helpful for meeting friends, they also provide a way to stay active in college! Remaining active can be a challenge for many college students–especially as a freshmen just getting used to living alone. It is easy to get caught up in the busyness of college-life, but exercise is an important part of one’s mental and physical health. Unlike high school, there are no workouts or practices scheduled for you to attend in college–everything is up to you. This is why joining a club sports team can be a nice way to keep yourself on track to live a healthy and active life.
