An Underrated Aspect of Campus Life: Finding Your Favorite Study Spots

Let’s be honest. Studying somewhere depressing sucks. So, to prevent you from getting stuck studying somewhere dark and sad, I’ve culminated a few study spots that I thought were positive environments that you can try out for yourself!

Here’s a few of my favorite study spots:

  1. D.C. Smith Greenhouse

If you live on Lakeshore, try the D.C. Smith Greenhouse on Babcock. It’s a small greenhouse with a few benches to sit, and it even has an indoor pond with a few little fish. They keep it warm all year, so it’s nice and toasty in winter.

  1. The second floor of the Law Building on Bascom

With huge windows overlooking Bascom and big tables, it’s the perfect place to study in perfect silence but with lots of natural sunlight.

  1. Birge Hall greenhouse and garden

Again, another greenhouse. It’s not a certified study spot, but there is a singular bench you can sit on among the plants in the greenhouse. The garden outside is secluded and nice in the warm months as well.

Don’t forget to switch it up and study in several different spaces. Varying your study space is important to your retention, and is over twice as effective as studying in the same space where your exam will take place. According to Medium, changing environments can double your retention

There’s so many more beautiful study spots on campus than what I mentioned, but hopefully these recommendations will encourage you to explore so you can find your own favorite spots and get that retention and those exam scores up!
