From Child to Adult Real Quick!

After Freshman year, I can safely say that I have “adulted.” I have been on my own for the first time in my life, which has not caused me difficulty but confidence. To incoming Freshman, you may think that this time where you “adult” never comes. It happens to the best and the worst of us. This “adulting” does not happen overnight; it is a gradual change in personality, routine, and behavior. I like to remember my tips to “adulting” that I have learned through a helpful mnemonic:

Always plan ahead

Don’t forget to call your parents

Use all of the campus resources possible

Live on the edge, but not too on the edge

Try new experiences that you would never have seen yourself doing

Introduce yourself to new people with a firm handshake and a smile

Never get caught up in the wrong crowd

Gloat about the good stuff, don’t beat yourself about the bad stuff

As much as you enjoyed your childhood and being a kid, you are now in college, with a new set of opportunities and challenges that await. With these tips in mind, you are guaranteed to “adult” by the end of Freshman year. Incorporate them into your daily being to ensure success!
