One thing I wish I could tell my younger self is to not be in such a hurry to move on into the real world, and take more time to enjoy the journey.
When I started college I was so accustomed to always being on the move and going from one thing to the next. That did not change when I got to Madison. For some reason I felt compelled to get out of college as soon as possible.
But looking back now I can’t help but ask my younger self – what was the rush?
This is a time in your life that you will never get back. Your entire focus is on completing your coursework and getting your degree. Yes, there are many other benefits along the way like learning how to live on your own and meeting some incredible people. But it’s also a time where there is not much else you are responsible for.
So, my adult life hack is a simple one – appreciate your down time. After college, there might not be a lot of it so you need to learn to appreciate it as much as you can. It took me many years to realize the importance of down time for my mental health and for my body.
These years are precious. It’s important to really enjoy the journey and taking time for yourself is a big part of that.
