Underrated Campus Activities That I Didn’t Know about Until after Freshman Year

Football games are overrated. There are other ways to engage in campus life and many of them often go unnoticed by first year students. Some of them involve free food, free movies, and scenic Instagramable views.

Attend a Wisconsin Alumni Association Event

I usually just attend these events for the free food. It’s the Wisconsin Alumni Association so of course they’re going to splurge on catering. Outside of food, they often discuss some really interesting topics such as how to build credit and how to get involved in the community. This is also a good place to meet new people.

Watch a Late Night Movie at the Union South Marquee Theater

Bet you didn’t know there was a movie theater on campus. When you need something to celebrate the end of another hard and grueling week, the Marquee Cinema at Union South has free showings on Thursday, Friday, Saturdays, and occasionally Sundays. Unlike the Marcus Point Theater *clears throat in embarrassment*, you can bring your own snacks into the theater.

Go for a Walk on Lakeshore Path

I’m sure you’re tired of walking around campus but hear me out. Lakeshore path is honestly one the most underrated spots on campus. It’s super satisfying to just watch the sun rise on the calm waters of Lake Mendota. I often find myself walking the path when I need some place to just contemplate life. You’ll probably find yourself doing that a lot in college.
