Welcome to college.
The first thing you’ve probably realized is, there are no rules here. Well, there are…but I’m talking about parental rules. No more Mom or Dad telling you what you can and cannot do.
Learn to Handle Freedom.
Given that you’re free to schedule your time as you please, it’s important to learn how you’re going to make the most of it. What time are you going to wake up in the morning so that you can get to class on time? Are you going to go to the gym in-between classes? What about food? These are all important questions that you need to ask yourself if you’re going to be successful in college.
I know it seems like a lot, but there is a very simple solution to keeping all this information in order…
Bring a Calendar.
If there is one item that I recommend you bring to college, it’s a calendar. As simple as this might seem, the number of people that refuse to do something so beneficial is astonishing. Use it to write down your class schedule, assignment due dates, plans with friends, etc. The list goes on and on.
Once you’ve completed this, put it somewhere you’ll see it without having to look for it. Every morning, go over your daily commitments, and figure out times for how it’s all going to work. I cannot begin to explain the number of times that doing this helped me remember I had a class, or an assignment due the next day.
A lot of things happen in the life of a college student, I suggest you keep them organized.
