We all remember when we were younger all we wanted to do was grow up. Being 11 wasn’t as cool as being 12, and being 12 wasn’t as cool as being a teenager. But as the birthdays get higher, the closer and closer we get to being a real-life adult. As a freshman in college, it’s most likely your first time living on your own and trust me there are going to be some mistakes.
Whether it’s calling your mom because you don’t remember what setting to put the washing machine on or even just because you don’t know what to order; it’s okay to not know how to be an adult. Chances are everyone around you is in a similar boat and you can help each other grow up a little. The top three tips I’ve learned this year are…
Don’t be afraid to ask for help
The amount of times I’ve called my parents this year to ask if I’m doing something right or to get their advice is unreal. Don’t feel like you’re giving up your independence just because you need help.
Make friendsĀ
Friends are important to living an adult life. While it may be scary at first, putting yourself out there helps you grow as a person and will help you in the long run. Trust me I’ve moved 7 times.
Know when to stay in vs. when to go outĀ
College isn’t like high school, there’s something going on every night and missing a party in a sweaty fraternity basement is not the end of the world. I promise.
