Although Wisconsin does get hot summers and nice weather in the warmer months, most of the year is spent in a perpetual, freezing cold winter. During those months, it’s hard to find something to do that actually makes you want to leave the warmth of the indoors. However, ice skating is a great way to be active and have fun without being too cold.
During the cooler season, the Shell hosts themed late night skate nights. The Shell, also known as Camp Randall Sports Center, is located right next to Camp Randall along Monroe Street. You can either walk or take bus 80 or 82 to be dropped off close by. With little to no cost for UW-Madison students, there is no excuse to not take advantage of this enjoyable opportunity.
Past themes include Cartoon Classics and Classic Rock. This is also a savvy way to reuse old Halloween costumes and not put them to waste. Rather than throwing out that 90s windbreaker you bought from Ragstock, you could wear it to a 90s themed skate night!
To keep updated about when the Shell hosts their skate nights, follow the UW Rec Sports account on Twitter, like their page on Facebook, or look out for flyers posted around campus or in your dorm’s lobby. Even though the long Wisconsin winters can be unbearable sometimes, events like these put everyone in a good mood!
