Are you an incoming freshman this year? Here is a step by step guide on how to branch our, and find your new found home at UW-Madison! There are a few things I utilized myself as a freshman, not too long ago. Right off the bat, I recommend introducing yourself to your fellow classmates in your dorm. Invite them over for hangouts, ask if they want to go to the dining hall with you, go for a walk, etc. By doing this, you open yourself to a world of people and new friends right in the place you are living. It’s important to keep an open mind and try and get to know the people around you. As you never know who might be your new best friend. Remember, everyone here is in the same boat, starting fresh, and looking for a companion. I also recommend going to the student organization fair at the Kohl Center! This is a fantastic opportunity to sign up for any clubs you may be interested in. You can carry on a passion you pursued in high school, or try something completely new. Either way, you will be introduced to a plethora of people who share your interests and/ or values! Just keep an open mind, and really try and put your best foot forward. Even by sitting with someone new in the dining hall, making random plans to explore campus or grab a coffee, you will feel more at home each and everyday. UW-Madison also has lots of sports teams you can join or Greek Life if you’re interested in that as well!
