Figuring out your future at 18 years old is incredibly confusing. When I first stepped on campus as a business major, I had no clue where my dorm was, let alone what I needed to do to kickstart my career. Fast forward, I am currently double majoring in Real Estate and Marketing and working my second summer as a Real Estate Intern. Regardless of your major, there are three tips that will ensure future success for every incoming student.

Tip #1: Explore like it’s your job but don’t be a snob

Take any class that sounds interesting, join a new club, or start a new hobby. College is a great opportunity to explore, but stay grounded. Don’t get caught up in social hierarchies. Focus on what you want, and stay true to yourself.

Tip #2: Network, network, network, and then network some more

LinkedIn is helpful, but nothing beats real conversations. Professors, club leaders, guest speakers, and even other students are full of insight. Just talk to people, you never known where the conversation might lead.

Tip #3: Make summer count

Internships are great, but any real-world experience is extremely valuable. Any work experience will provide insight into what you enjoy and what you don’t. Explore.

At the end of the day college is not a linear journey. You may change your major 10 times. However, Freshman year does not need to be scary, and you never know your dream job may find you first. It’s all going to be okay!
