The first few weeks of college are some of the toughest weeks you may have experienced thus far in your life, but know that everyone you are surrounded with is in the same boat as you. Here are some tips to make Madison feel like your second home in no time!
1. Make Your Community Smaller
Though it may seem unnecessary because you are surrounded by so many people, finding a smaller group to relate to on a deeper level can lead to bonds that will eventually lead to lifelong friends. This can be done through the Student Org Fair at the Kohl Center, joining greek life, finding people in your major through classes, or many others. Having a smaller community withing the huge campus will make it seem smaller and more managable.
2. Find a Balance
Classes will ramp up quickly and though your studies are the most important thing about being at college, it is important to balance out the hard work you are doing with things that will make you feel better mentally and physically. This can include trips to the Nicholas Recreation center, a nice walk outside on the Lakeshore Path, or even going to get your favorite food with a friend.
3. Have Fun!
Fun can look different to each and every person, but finding something you look forward to each week will keep your spirits up and may even motivate you to get your schoolwork done. Whether its going to a Badger football game or hanging out with friends on a Friday night, having something enjoyable planned in advance will encourage you to stay on track and learn to love Madison.
