We all have those fuzzy-headed moments where it seems like whatever we do, we can’t shake the thick fog that covers our brains (always at the most inconvenient times). These three tips have gotten me out of my worst mental clouds and I’m positive they’ll help you too!
1. Drink a Water (or 6) for Once
If you’re anything like me, coffee runs through your veins from the second you wake up, until you lay your head on your pillow at night. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from my lack-of-caffeine headaches and one-espresso-shot-too many, it’s that you need to add a water in the mix every once in a while. Your brain fog and headache most likely stem from dehydration, lack of sleep, or a combination of the two. Try drinking green tea instead of coffee and also drinking half of your body weight in ounces by 4pm each day.
2. Get Some Actual Sleep
No one is ever on top of their game when they’re tired, irritable and crabby from not sleeping. Try to get into a routine of going to bed by a certain time and waking up at least an hour before your classes. The ideal amount of sleep for ages 18-25 is 7-9 hours according to the National Sleep Foundation.
3. Aromatherapy is For Real
Whenever I need to clear my head, I use a few drops of essential oils on my wrists or an air spray in my study spot. Try a mental clarity oil or lavender, rose, and orange scents to calm your stressful and anxious thoughts. I also use a lavender calming spray on pillow each night to help my brain relax and get better sleep.
