Making connections in college is largely about mindset and openness. Students who approach social situations with positivity and confidence are more likely to form meaningful relationships. Rather than worrying about whether others will like them or assuming everyone already has a friend group, it’s more effective to enter a space thinking, “Look at how many potential friends I can make.”
This mindset affects everything—from body language to willingness to start conversations. By putting yourself in open, welcoming environments, you naturally increase your chances of meeting people and forming connections.
For example, I became friends with someone during a midterm exam when I sat in a different seat than usual. She was talking about the TV show Supernatural, which caught my attention, and that small moment sparked a friendship that has lasted since freshman year.
Even if new friendships feel a little off at first, I believe people naturally gravitate toward those they align with energetically. Some relationships may fade, while others will solidify with time. Being open and authentic creates space for the right connections to grow.
