Navigating College Social Dynamics as a Freshman

As a freshman, I found myself plunged into the web of college social dynamics, a journey blended with excitement and anxiety. The prospect of moving to a new area and being on my own for the first time was both exciting and daunting, leaving me to wonder endlessly about my ability to make  friendships and make the most out of my college experience

I explored various avenues for connection. While joining Greek life or attending fraternity parties promised an instant way to make new friends, I also discovered social hubs like Scoonies or Lucky’s, where I could befriend new badgers. Additionally, I joined student organizations such as The Vault which opened doors to a community of like-minded individuals, where our common interests in fashion served as the foundation for bonds. Being a part of The Vault over the past year has not only deepened my passion for fashion but has also provided me with a sense of belonging and a second family.

Freshman first-week events served as a gateway to campus life, offering opportunities to explore university life and connect with fellow badgers. Engaging in these activities allowed me a sense of community. Contributing to the transformation of UW-Madison into my home away from home.

Through these experiences, I have gained insights into the complexities of social interaction, as I navigate the transition to adulthood. While I may not yet consider myself an expert, I have come to appreciate the significance of engaging in campus life and connection.
