You’re finally at college… Now what?

Finding your friends in college can be, quite frankly, hard. While it’s exciting to know that there’s a whole campus out there for you to explore, it comes with the terrifying realization that you have to start all over. However, the nice thing is that you’re not in it alone. Everyone who leaves home and comes to college is in the exact same boat as you.

Here are three tips to help you meet new people:

1. USE FRESHMAN ORIENTATION!

Funny enough, freshman orientation (SOAR) can be the best place for making new connections. Take the time to get to know the others in your group and, even, get each other’s snaps or make a group chat out of it — who knows, these may just become your closest friends.

2. KEEP THAT DOOR OPEN!

While it may seem just a tad bit awkward, I can promise you that it’s exactly how I met some of my best friends in college. Now, fast forward a year later and here we are living together in a small little Madison apartment — and I wouldn’t change it for the world. Check out this article for more reasons on why you should keep your door open!

3. GO TO THE STUDENT ORG FAIR!

I know… everybody tells you to join a student organization. But, in all actuality, just going to the student org fair can be a great way to meet people! Knock on your neighbors doors and see if anybody wants to join. It’s a great way to break the ice and give you common ground with your peers. And, of course, make sure to join that student organization and meet even more people.
