There is one thing that is absolutely imperative to having a good college experience. It’s not expensive and anyone can get it. The most important thing you need to bring with you to college is a sense of adventure.
Now you might think I’m being cheesy, but hear me out. Stepping out of your comfort zone is the absolute best way to ensure you have the best time of your life in college. It’s super important to challenge yourself and this is the perfect time to do so!
If you’re not sure how to branch out in your freshman year at UW Madison, here are some things that helped me:
- Look into summer launch programs. One of the best things I’ve ever done in college was going on a two-week freshman study abroad in the summer before I started school. I got to live in Ireland for 2 weeks and I met some of my best friends. UW Madison has both Study Abroad and Wisconsin programs.
- Find things you love to do outside of school. This could look like many different things from student organizations to working out to jobs. No matter what it is, this is a great way to meet new people and try new things!
- Explore Madison. There are so many great areas of Madison both on and off campus. My friends and I love to try new restaurants which is an awesome way to see more of the city.
No matter how you choose to do it, use your sense of adventure and branch out! I guarantee you won’t regret it.
