Locked inside during this pandemic, many have searched for new ways to express themselves and pass time while in quarantine. If you’ve already tried new recipes or attempted to learn a new skill and are looking for a new pastime, why not try creative writing? Writing is a fun hobby that lets you use your imagination to tell your stories and share them with others. Here’s a few tips to help you get started!
1. Start Journaling
Journaling is a great way to document your everyday thoughts and experiences which can help you come up with new stories to write about. 2. Use Music for Inspiration
While writing, I always listen to music, whether it’s a soothing classical composition or an upbeat pop song. Music can serve as a great source of inspiration, helping you connect with emotions you’re writing about and come up with new ideas based on the lyrics. Additionally, music can be a great motivator and improve your mood.
3. Use prompts and idea generators
Still struggling to think of an idea? Use prompts or idea generators! Many writers use these tools to come up with ideas and practice new writing styles. Prompts can be anything from a character description to a situation or even just a word to inspire your creativity. Generators fulfill a similar purpose, making a list of randomized words to write about. Some of my favorite prompt lists and generators are:
