The best college life-hack: Get more sleep!

Hacking your sleep has never been easier, and I promise it is a sure-fire way for an incoming college student to start every day feeling refreshed and ready to take on whatever comes your way!

During my first semester as a freshman in college, I was always staying up until the late hours of each night (some might even say morning), and I found myself tending to skip class more often, slacking off on my homework, and I was more irritable and moody. Quite possibly the worst combination of actions and emotions for a student trying to succeed. After a semester of not-so-great grades I knew that it was time for a change: I hacked my sleep schedule, and you can too! Follow these 3 simple rules:

1.Do calming activities an hour before bed

Doing this will help to allow your body to calm down and unwind prior to when you actually need to catch some ZZZ’s. This could include reading, meditating, listening to music, or even watching TV (but only if that helps!).

2.Aim for 8 hours

Everybody needs different amounts of sleep, however the rule of thumb for a good-night’s rest is roughly 8 hours of sleep, so plan ahead!

3.Make it a routine!

Our bodies love love love routines. It helps our brains to recognize when it’s time to relax and fall asleep. Going to bed around the same time every night will start your process of falling asleep easier (and faster!).
