Football game days, Bascom Hill snowball fights, and late nights at College Library are staples of the UW student experience; but the weight of 15-credit course loads and floor-length parkas it’s tough to experience Madison in all of its glory. What most students don’t know is that after the snow piles have melted away and the seniors are gone, the campus is your oyster. As a 4-year summer school veteran I’m going to share with you a few of the ways I have learned to take full advantage of campus life from May until August!
1. Experience Memorial Union Terrace from dawn until dusk
The terrace is more than just a place for a quick pitcher of Spotted Cow mid-afternoon. Wake up to see the sunrise, and set up your towel on the swimming pier. When sun-bathing gets boring, rent a paddle board from the Hoofer’s Club at a student discount. Grab lunch from the brat stand and stay to watch the sun set and wait around for Terrace After Dark!

2. Do your grocery shopping at the Dane County Farmer’s Market
The market comes to the Capitol every Saturday in the summer, and my typical list for the market includes a Stella’s cheese empanada ($5 each), a wildflower bouquet (ranges from $5-$15), and a block of Hook’s cheese (prices vary).
3. Go to a Madison Mallards baseball game
Get Duck Blind tickets (General Admission ranges from $25.00-$36.00) and receive unlimited ballpark food, soda, and beer on a party deck located in the outfield!
