Adulting: Become a Morning Person

Productivity of an early morning is slept on (pun intended). In High School, my mom was always up before me, usually on her second cup of coffee, telling me everything she had already achieved that morning. Not convinced? Let me explain.

College can be busy. So busy that you might leave your dorm at 9am and not get back till 8pm. While not everyday is the same, finding a morning routine can help set your day off on the right start.

Pour yourself a cup of coffee, tea, or whatever is your morning beverage of choice. Sit down and write a to-do list for the day. Include school assignments and life errands you would like to finish off during the day. Of course not every box has to get checked, but having a visual of what you would like to get accomplished can provide a boost of motivation.

Depending on how early you pull yourself out of bed, include a morning meditation or yoga flow into your morning routine. This can give you a chance to de-stress before re-stressing throughout the day. Apps like Headspace can be a great start.

If you get really good at waking up early you may even have time to finish an assignment, get a real workout in, or use the extra time to clean your room and make your bed.

Regardless of what your morning routine looks like, you will benefit from having one. The extra “you” time and productivity will be much appreciated when you come home exhausted from a long day.
