I remember as an incoming freshman I was so caught up in trying to make sure that I had everything that I would need. My suitcases and boxes were packed to the brim with my clothes, decorations, toiletries, and just about anything that you can think one might need for their first year of college.
I thought I had thought of everything I would need, but a few days after move-in I realized that I forgot something that I never thought of. Our beds were lofted so it took a bit of effort to get up and down and once you were all comfortable in bed the worst feeling was having to unnecessarily climb back down for something like a glass of water. This is when we realized that we needed to get bedside shelves that could be hooked onto the bedframe. It quickly became apparent that this was going to become my most indispensable item.
With it, I could now have a place to set my phone where not only was it easy to reach, kept it from just falling off the bed which happened many times before I got the bedside shelf. I could set my laptop there or a book while I was doing homework. And I now never had to crawl out of my cozy bed for a glass of water again, because I was able to have it sitting right there. It simplified life so much and made a lofted bed feel a little homier.
A bedside shelf or hanging storage bag is very easy to find. A quick google search showed me that they could be found at many major retailers such as Target and Walmart. They are also relatively cheap and most are under $20. So if you are an incoming freshmen make sure to add this indispensable item to your packing list.
