Tired of Netflix? Try learning a new skill!

Being alone can really start to get to you, however, it doesn’t have to mean that you cannot do something great to pass your time. One thing that a lot of UW-Madison students do not know is that your UW email will let you access all of the LinkedIn Learning Courses, for FREE!

There are over 5,000 courses available that cover topics such as business, creative and tech skills and so much more. Some of the classes offered to teach you how to use software that is apart of the Adobe Creative Cloud, Accounting Foundations, Career Development and so much more.  Many of the classes also have videos and downloadable files that you follow along with.

Just last week I was able to spend only a few hours out of my day and take a course on UI/UX design and was able to add a certificate of completion to my LinkedIn profile. The class was really easy to listen to and I was able to download AdobeXD files to follow along with the instructor. I had always been interested in the creative aspect of app and website design so finally getting a way to do so was great. Not to mention it was a productive way to spend my day in social isolation.  On top of the great learning experience, recruiters that are looking at my LinkedIn profile can see that I am capable of creating design systems in Adobe XD.

As an incoming freshman, this would be a great way to get a headstart on some of the topics that you might encounter in your classes and make you feel more prepared. Your first classes at UW can feel really intimidating, but imagine how much better you would feel if you went in with a ton of background knowledge! I know that I will definitely be taking advantage of this amazing resource and learning about all that I can.
