The Freshman Fifteen is NOT Mandatory

For those of you who are unaware, the term freshman fifteen refers to the weight that many individuals gain during their first year of college. This phenomenon is undoubtedly due to the bad food habits that often go with one living on his or her own for the first time, and the stresses that first-year students commonly face. Without home cooked meals, and having to frequently eat on-the-go, many succumb to a diet of fast food and other “less-than-healthy” meal choices. And believe me you, those pounds add up one calorie at a time. Don’t go out and buy a pair of new (and loose) pants, just yet! Downtown Madison has amazingly healthier food options that can undoubtedly prevent the freshman fifteen to become your reality. Restaurants such as Forage Kitchen, Poke Bowl Plus, and SaladsUp all fit-the-bill, and offer delicious and wholesome foods that fill you up, without filling you up, if you know what I mean. These restaurants are only a handful of the countless places to eat in Madison that health-conscience individuals can respect and love! Another place, and a personal favorite of mine, is Fresh Cool Drinks, a food cart that can be reliably found on East Campus Mall, just outside of Memorial Library. The chef and owner does an amazing job creating healthy and delicioussmoothies out of fresh fruit, and makes the most amazing (and unbelievable large) spring rolls that will undoubtedly have you coming back for more! All-in-all, take the time to search out these healthy food spots that are all around Downtown Madison and we can kill the curse, that is the freshman fifteen, together!
