A Little Laugh Goes a Long Way!

GET YOUR LAUGH ON!

As the old adage goes, laughter is the best medicine! Lucky for UW students, there are a few options to get your giggle on close to or even on campus. So next time you’re looking for some fun to fill a night, consider taking a stroll over to the Comedy Club on State Street or seeing a student-run show by Iceberg Improv or Manhole Sketch Comedy.

Comedy Club

This venue offers a wide variety of nationally touring comedians (including some SNL regulars) with performances Thursday-Saturday at a reasonable price, with most shows’ ticket prices topping out at $18. And because they know college kids are on a budget, they often offer $5 deals for the Thursday night show. Another wallet-friendly option here is to stop by for open mic night when admission is only $2; if you’re feeling bold, you can even sign up for a chance to perform.

Iceberg Improv

Iceberg is a student group specializing in long form improv. Performances are free and conveniently held on campus in the Mosse Humanities building and generally held on the first Friday of the month. If improv appeals to you, they hold auditions for students interested in joining their troop.

Manhole Sketch Comedy

Another student group, Manhole’s shtick is sketch comedy (think SNL). Their shows generally revolve around a theme that is advertised and used as part of their publicity for events. This group also holds auditions for interested individuals.

So the next time school-work is getting you down, or if you’re just looking for something to do, consider Madison’s comedy scene as an option to fill your night with fun!
